Dusty Plasma DEMO experiment

In addition to its main research devices, the Plasma Sciences Laboratory also maintains a small, reseach grade vacuum chamber that is used for exploring new ideas and as a fully-working demonstration plasma source.

The chamber, which is constructed from Plexiglas, has optical access from almost any direction. This affords onlookers very unique views of the plasma and the suspended particle clouds in the device.

A view of the DEMO chamber showing the transparent chamber, feedthroughs, and electrodes. A view of an argon plasma (blue glow) in the DEMO chamber and light from the power supplies (red).

The DEMO chamber can be mounted on a cart and transported as a reasonably "self-contained" experiment. If you are interested in having Prof. Thomas and/or members of the PSL visit your school with the DEMO experiment, use the "CONTACT" link in the menu to obtain information from us.
