PSL gets covered!

The cover photograph of the APS Bulletin for the 2001 Division of Plasma Physics Meeting features an image of a dusty plasma in the Naval Research Laboratory Dusty Plasma Experiment (DUPLEX). The image was taken using the particle image velocimetry (PIV) diagnostic provided by the Auburn University Plasma Sciences Laboratory.

The formal caption reads:

"On the Cover: Video image of a convecting charged microparticle (dust) structure observed in the NRL DUPLEX device. The 1 micron particles are suspended within an argon dc glow discharge and illuminated by a pulsed sheet of laser light. Analysis of pairs of images yields spatially resolved 2-dimensional measurements of microparticle flow velocities. Images courtesy of William E. Amatucci of the Naval Research Laboratory and Edward E. Thomas, Jr., Christopher S. Compton, and Brian J. Christy of Auburn University."

And now... the punchline...

-> The photograph was printed UPSIDE DOWN!

So, in honor of this, we've decided to have some fun at the expense of the APS!
